Unemployed people busy cleaning the streets : the Sardinia Region has allocated five million euros to maintain the island's roads and to support employment levels in the area, combat environmental degradation, improve urban decor, and offer job opportunities to unemployed citizens.

" Our roads are the face of Sardinia . They are the first image that greets those arriving on our island," says Councilor Desirè Manca , "the symbol of our identity and our pride. We can no longer tolerate their disfigurement by garbage abandoned along ditches and overpasses. It is an open wound to our landscape , our community, our dignity. With this project, we choose to care for our land and, at the same time, provide new opportunities to those seeking work."

The project was approved yesterday by the Regional Council. It's a widespread initiative that encompasses the entire region, although the title of the resolution, which has not yet been published, refers to "employment initiatives for local authorities, specifically the provinces and the metropolitan cities of Cagliari and Sassari, for cleaning, maintenance, and decoration of provincial, municipal, and intermunicipal roads."

A key role will be played by the Sardinian Agency for Active Labor Policies (ASPAL), which will oversee the staff selection procedures, ensuring transparency, speed, and efficiency. "It's not just about cleanliness," the council member emphasized, "it's about safety, fire prevention, environmental protection, and quality of life. It's about respect for the citizens and for those who choose Sardinia as a destination. But above all, it's about jobs: dignity restored through commitment and professionalism."
