"We are the social infrastructure of this region. From the cabin of a train to the hold of a ship, from the seat of a bus to the control tower of an airport, we are the heartbeat of the Sardinian economy."
Valerio Mereu , general secretary of UilTrasporti Sardegna, said this in his speech during the twelfth congress held in Cagliari . Mereu was reconfirmed as general secretary. The regional secretariat includes Elisabetta Manca , Anna Cirronis , Michele Deias , Mario Putzolu , Andrea Piccu , and Nicola Contini .
During his speech, Mereu reviewed all the aspects involving UilTrasporti : from the regional transport plan, which "must not be an academic utopia or a bureaucratic exercise. It must be a living, applicable, and, above all, funded document," he reiterated, calling for guaranteed resources for the plan.
Shifting the focus to local public transport, according to the secretary, "it can no longer be calculated solely on school flows. We must transform the bus into a welfare tool for active seniors and those living in inland areas. Local public transport must be the engine of deseasonalization."
He then spoke of the crisis in the professions , "a silent emergency affecting every sector of our profession, from local public transport to logistics, from maritime to rail: we can't find workers anymore." This is why, according to Mereu, "we need to implement incentive-based contractual policies," and "real wage increases, work-life balance, corporate welfare, and training."
Present at the congress were the national general secretary of UilTrasporti, Marco Verzari , the general secretary of Uil Sardegna Fulvia Murru and the other members of the regional secretariat Elena Carta and Carla Meloni , the president of the regional council Piero Comandini , the regional councillor for transport Barbara Manca , the mayor of Cagliari Massimo Zedda .
