The mayor of Maracalagonis, Francesca Fadda, is calling for the establishment of a parliamentary commission to oversee the construction of the Tyrrhenian Link , or alternatively, for an urgent hearing of the mayors of the municipalities it passes through before the relevant parliamentary committees. She is doing so via a certified email sent in the last few hours to the Ministers of the Environment and Energy Security, the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, the chairs of the Environment, Chamber of Deputies, and Senate Committees, the President of the Sardinia Region, the Prefect of Cagliari, Terna SpA, the Metropolitan City of Cagliari, and all the Deputies and Senators of Sardinia and Sicily. She is requesting a suspension of the roadworks inspection process until a joint review with local authorities has been carried out.
"It is unacceptable," Mayor Fadda added, "that a project of national interest should be carried out while trampling on the safety of Sardinian citizens . Furthermore, the Metropolitan City, as the owner of the SP 15 and 17 roads, is hereby formally warned to proceed, pursuant to Article 21 of the Highway Code, with the immediate suspension of work and the enforcement of Terna's guarantee for failure to carry out proper restoration."
The mayor also adds that "despite a project costing more than €3.7 billion, defined as being of national interest, to date the Municipality of Maracalagonis and its residents have received no compensation , no compensatory work, no environmental compensation, but only a proposal of €350,000 for work completed. To date, however, ONLY DAMAGE has been recorded: provincial roads 15 and 17 destroyed and only partially repaired, posing a traffic hazard; months of traffic jams, dust, noise, and heavy vehicles; disruption to school openings and public transport; damage to commercial and agricultural businesses along the route; and devaluation of the land without any compensation. My administration will not sign any approvals or agreements until Terna presents a concrete compensation plan for Maracalagonis : complete reconstruction of the affected roads, barriers, mitigation works, and an environmental compensation fund for the community."
