They attempted to ascend from Cala Mariolu wearing only plastic flip-flops. No hiking boots. And no water. Helicopter rescue and mountain rescue were required to rescue two tourists who had fallen ill.
Recounting this afternoon's incident is Democratic Party regional councilor Salvatore Corrias, who knows the coast well: he was also mayor of Baunei. He urges caution, given that this is yet another incident of this kind.
"Today's intervention once again highlights the importance of prevention and individual responsibility when visiting the wildest mountain and coastal areas ," explains Corrias, who, when speaking of Cala Mariolu, calls it by its Sardinian name: Ispuligidenie.
According to the former mayor, "it's necessary to carefully approach the Supramonte hiking trails, which are characterized by long distances, steep gradients, and stretches exposed to weather conditions that can be particularly challenging, especially in the summer months. We therefore urge caution, prudence, and respect for municipal ordinances regarding land use."
Get informed, he continues, addressing tourists, "before embarking on an excursion, and plan it carefully, with the right equipment. Proper planning will reduce risks to your safety and avoid the need for emergency interventions that require highly specialized equipment and personnel, such as helicopter rescues and CNSAS teams, which are essential resources for dealing with truly unpredictable situations."
