One of the two climbers, struck by a sudden illness, reached the base of the cliff and was no longer able to climb back up and called The operations room of the Portoscuso maritime district office. The naval vessel M/V CP 707 was therefore diverted to the scene. The patrol boat's crew lowered the two young men aboard using the same climbing ropes. One of the climbers immediately appeared visibly distressed, partly due to the pain associated with his physical condition.


Meanwhile, the operations room had alerted 118, which dispatched an ambulance with medical personnel to the port of Buggerru. There, once the crew of the patrol boat CP 707 had completed the transfer to the dock, the two young men were taken into care by the medical workers who arrived on the scene .
