Sixty-two bags of waste were collected, an old car was recovered, and appliances, bicycles, tires, and scooter frames were removed from the two Tuvixeddu caves . This is the result of the "Let's Clean Up the Dark" initiative, which took place this morning during the weekend dedicated to World Environment Day.
In detail, 20 bags of glass, 8 of plastic and 34 of unsorted waste were recovered, along with numerous bulky materials, mostly ferrous .
The initiative was organized by the Giovanni Spano Speleological-Archaeological Group and Legambiente Sardegna, and is part of the calendar of events promoted by the speleological group to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the association's founding.

"The initiative represents an important step towards restoring decorum and allowing the community to reclaim an extraordinary collective asset," said the president of Legambiente Sardegna, Marta Battaglia .
"The idea to clean up the sinkhole was born from the situation it faced in recent years. One of our members lived nearby and over time witnessed numerous incidents of waste abandonment. In other years, we've participated in cleaning caves located in mountainous areas, but this time it was an opportunity to participate in an initiative in the heart of the town. It's about improving the city and restoring assets of great historical value for the community," explained President Nicola Sitzia .
