A very hot night. This is what most of Sardinia experienced between Tuesday 1st and Wednesday 2nd July, with minimum temperatures well above what should be normal for this period (but for several years now, the anomaly has become normal). The term “tropical night” has now become quite common, that is, when the minimum temperature does not fall below 20°, which on the island has occurred in many places. And, indeed, in many cases it has well exceeded the limit.
The record – from data recorded by Arpas – last night is Stintino: 24.6°, a very high minimum temperature . Followed by Domus de Maria, Narcao Monte Rosas, Putifigari and Santa Teresa Gallura all four at 23.9°, just below San Teodoro (23.6°), Castiadas (23.3°), Bosa and Villa San Pietro (23.1°) in turn above 23, reached instead by Sorso.
On the other hand, the "coldest" place in Sardinia tonight was Villanova Strisaili with 9.6° and the only other below 10 degrees was Gavoi . Then we go up to 11.6° in Illorai and 14.3° in Sadali, already with a clear gap, then to 14.9° in Giave which is the other that fell – albeit very slightly – below 15 degrees.
Among the other municipalities that had to experience a tropical night , Sardara (22.8°), Serrenti (22.7°), Cabras (22.7°), Milis (22.6°) and Guasila (22.1°) were among the highest, while Olmedo (20.4°), Arzachena (20.5°), Dolianova (20.5°), Orosei (20.5°) and Seui (20.5°) slightly exceeded the minimum level. It was not only formally a tropical night for Alà dei Sardi and Ghilarza, but only because the minimum was 19.9°, the same goes for Nurallao and Siliqua with 19.8°.
Among the main ones, the hottest night was in Sassari with 22.5° recorded in Campanedda, then Alghero and Iglesias at 21.9°, Cagliari (Pirri station) at 21°, Villacidro at 20.9°, Decimomannu at 20.7° and Arzachena at 20.5°. More "manageable" temperatures in Tortolì (18°), Nuoro (18.1°), Tempio (18.2°) and Macomer (18.6°). The African subtropical anticyclone, i.e. the "cause" of this extreme heat, should continue throughout the week, with a bit of a break from Monday .
