Cars will be stopped , with traffic diverted and causing inconvenience to motorists , on the SP 90, the coastal road that connects Castelsardo with Santa Teresa Gallura , at the bridge over the Rio di Pirastu, in the municipality of Trinità d'Agultu .
The measure was made necessary by a structural failure of the asphalt laid on the bridge , with a sinkhole that formed perhaps as a consequence of the bad weather that has not spared the area in recent days.
The traffic ban , issued by the province of Olbia-Tempio after an inspection carried out yesterday evening , is aimed at allowing the road surface to be restored , with workers already on site to reopen the road to traffic as soon as possible.
The road , a key artery connecting major towns in the area, has long been the subject of intense controversy because many sections are nearly impassable. Today, the road was again closed until further notice.
