Sardinia confirms its position among Italy's most virtuous regions in the donation and transplant system. This is what emerges from the National Transplant Center's report, updated to May 24, 2026, which compares data recorded for the same period in 2025.

In fact, the Island reaches third place at national level, together with Emilia Romagna, for activity in reporting potential donors , with an index of 76.2 PMP (donors per million people), preceded only by Tuscany and Veneto.

This is a particularly significant result that confirms the high level of collaboration between hospitals, healthcare workers, and the regional organizational system.

The activity data are also positive: in the period between January 1st and May 24th 2026, 40 transplants were performed in Sardinia, compared to the 27 performed in the same period in 2025 , thus an increase of 48%.

In detail, the reported donors in Sardinia increased from 43 in 2025 to 47 in 2026, while the donors used increased from 24 to 27. The opposition rate remained stable, at around 25%.

"The data confirm the great work done by the regional transplant network and demonstrate a growing culture of donation among Sardinian citizens," commented Alessandra Todde, President of the Region and interim Health Councilor.

A significant step forward was also made with the launch of the Donation after Circulatory Death (DCD) organ donation program , an innovative technique already adopted in the country's most advanced settings and aimed at expanding the number of potential donors.
