Giuseppe Spiga, 52, originally from Serramanna, was appointed bishop by Pope Francis last February. His episcopal ordination is scheduled for May 18.

His diocese is in the Amazon and from the end of the world, in a mission land, he remembers the sign left by the Argentine Pope and thinks of the pontiff who will come.

"He must follow," he emphasizes, "the path traced by Francis, alongside the least of the earth and the suffering. He must interpret the message of the Gospel."
