Courage, professionalism, and a sense of duty. These are the values shared by the 24 Italian Army personnel thanked this morning by the Chief of Staff of the Army, Lieutenant General Carmine Masiello, for their actions during rescue operations that saved lives.

The general emphasized the value of the military's actions, which included interventions on behalf of dozens of people involved in accidents and emergency situations. "You are a source of pride for the country. The entire country and the entire Army owe you the gratitude for the example you have set and the courage you have demonstrated," the Chief of Staff said, addressing the soldiers.

Among the recognized stories is that of Sergeant Major Adjutant Massimo Deligia, serving in the 45th Command and Tactical Support Unit "Reggio" of the "Sassari" Brigade, who was the protagonist of a rescue operation in Porto Alabe, in the Tresnuraghes area, last August 21st.

Deligia was on vacation with his family when he noticed a German tourist in obvious distress at sea. Faced with the dangerous situation, the officer didn't hesitate to intervene. With the help of several beachgoers, he used a lifebelt and a rope to reach the tourist and bring him back to shore.

Once rescued, the "Sassari" soldier gave him first aid, remaining at his side until the 118 personnel arrived.

Shortly thereafter, two ambulances and the Coast Guard arrived. The tourist was then handed over to the care of rescuers, while the Coast Guard gathered the necessary evidence to reconstruct the events of the incident.
