« Connections are essential for tourism, but in this period Sardinia is more difficult to reach due to a reduction in air routes, which always occurs with the closure of the Summer aeronautical season».
Councilor Franco Cuccureddu said this while participating in the International Tourism Forum, organized in Florence by the ministry. " Added to this is the fact that Ita will no longer fly to the airports of Cagliari and Olbia, having lost the territorial continuity tender, unless it agrees to maintain the routes without compensation: a remote possibility," he explained. He then added: "In fact, until October 2025 we will be disconnected from the national network and without code sharing agreements, Ita will continue to fly only to Alghero."
Cuccureddu also underlined a «lack of attention from national tourism bodies towards the Island», hoping for «greater collaboration so that national tourism strategies include Sardinia more carefully, which boasts one of the greatest tourist heritages yet to be valorized, both cultural, with the highest density of prehistoric sites in the world, but also coastal with about a quarter of the total Italian coasts, and being able to compete with the main marine destinations in the world for the quality of services, sometimes excellent, also in the tourist port sector».
Finally, the councilor declared that, despite the difficulties in connections, «Sardinia will plan events and related marketing actions every month of the year, to stimulate interest in Sardinia also for tourist products not linked to the bathing season, starting from New Year's Eve, which will liven up the squares of the main cities of the island».
