Tourism in the province of Nuoro is consolidating its role within the local economy, with significant growth in visitors and a significant impact on the region's added value. This is what emerges from the updated "Territorial Economy Barometer," produced by the Guglielmo Tagliacarne Chamber of Commerce Research Center in collaboration with Unioncamere and analyzed by the Economic Observatory of the Nuoro Chamber of Commerce. In 2025, the province recorded 20,998 tourist arrivals per km² of consumed area, reaching 29th place in the national ranking, an improvement from 35th place in 2024 and close to the best ranking achieved in 2021.

Particularly significant is the medium-term growth data: between 2019 and 2025, tourist arrivals increased by 14.44%, placing Nuoro 20th among Italian provinces in terms of percentage growth. This trend confirms the favorable dynamics and the region's growing attractiveness. Tourism is also becoming increasingly important from an economic perspective. The added value generated by accommodation and food services represents 7.93% of the local economy, ranking Nuoro 12th nationally and confirming the strategic role of the tourism sector for the province's productive system. Interesting insights also come from the availability of accommodations on short-term rental platforms. The average annual availability on Airbnb is 1.64 accommodations per km², while the average occupancy rate reaches 30.14%, placing Nuoro 23rd nationally for this indicator.

Offerings are still limited, but despite a good level of occupancy, there is potential for expansion of accommodation capacity. Seasonality remains an area requiring intervention. Monthly visitor concentration data shows that flows are still heavily concentrated in just a few months of the year. This dynamic represents a critical issue both in terms of seasonal adjustment and the strain on infrastructure during peak periods.

"The numbers paint an overall positive picture: Nuoro is experiencing growth in visitor numbers, improving its national ranking, and seeing tourism's economic impact grow," observes Maria Luisa Ariu, head of the Economic Observatory of the Nuoro Chamber of Commerce. "The most interesting finding is the combination of growth in visitor flows and the value generated by the sector. At the same time, the issue of seasonality clearly emerges: to consolidate this trend, it will be important to focus on attracting visitors throughout the year, strengthening and diversifying the area's offerings."

While awaiting the final 2026 budget, the initial available data indicates a trend essentially in line with 2025, confirming the sector's stability for the time being. The goal remains to consolidate growth through investments in the quality of the offering, infrastructure, promotion, and diversification of tourism experiences, with the goal of extending the season and better distributing the economic benefits throughout the region.
