For the coast where blue flags fly, this is a courageous environmentalist choice: Tortolì has decided to ban smoking on all the town's beaches.

Mayor Marcello Ladu's order will be in effect from July 15th to October 15th . The ban also includes e-cigarettes. Violators face fines of up to €500.

Law enforcement, local police officers, and the barracelli will be responsible for ensuring compliance with this measure, the first of its kind in Ogliastra. Smoking areas are guaranteed .
