Giovanni Pani, former mayor of Tortolì, passed away last night at the age of 90. He was a member of the San Gemiliano committee, which will be celebrated in the town next weekend. On July 5th, devotees celebrated Giovanni's 70th anniversary as a member of the committee. Giovanni was a Christian Democrat and mayor in the 1970s. The event was also attended by Anettina Pani, the celebrant's 96-year-old sister.
Due to an illness that struck him in recent days, the elderly man was hospitalized, but his condition worsened until yesterday's sad conclusion. An official at the Land Reclamation Consortium for forty years, Pani was the brother of Don Mario, a missionary in Bolivia who passed away a few years ago. He was married to Giuseppina Solanas, who passed away seven years ago, and leaves behind three children (Gigi, Mario, and Barbara).
