Torpè, Maccheronis tragedy: dam now empty, the Basin Authority opens only to drinking water.
Extreme, almost total, restrictions have been imposed in the Alta Baronia areas served by the dam: "The recent rains have all been coastal; if it doesn't rain, we'll have water until November 10-12."Per restare aggiornato entra nel nostro canale Whatsapp
Following the conclusion of the crisis meeting regarding the Posada water system, held today at the Regional Presidency offices on Viale Trento in Cagliari, the following is ordered: the Central Sardinia Land Reclamation Consortium, effective immediately, will manage its own consortium water network, closing all branches except those supplying the water purification plants managed by Abbanoa.
Bureaucratic red tape aside, the message comes through loud and clear, bearing the signature of ADIS (Regional Basin Authority), and illustrates the tragedy unfolding in the Torpè countryside. Even more extreme, almost total, restrictions are in place in the areas of upper Baronia served by the Maccheronis dam . The much-discussed reservoir, in fact, is half empty. "The recent rains have all been coastal; they have provided no relief. The current capacity is just 720,000 cubic meters. We only have water until November 12th, " says Ambrogio Guiso, president of the Central Sardinia Land Reclamation Consortium.
"A month ago, we had 2 million cubic meters of water stored, while daily consumption was around 80,000. Now the situation has worsened significantly: with the current restrictions , we're consuming around 38,000 cubic meters per day. I repeat, if it doesn't rain, we'll only have water until November 10-12. In short, it's a massacre ." Now, new closures are coming: the situation is desperate.
