The Cagliari Civil Court of Appeal will decide within 30 days on the appeal filed by the lawyers of Regional President Alessandra Todde, against the first-instance ruling that upheld the €40,000 fine and ordered the documents be forwarded to the Regional Council for a ruling on the forfeiture of her rights. Todde alleges irregularities in the reporting of electoral expenses for the 2024 regional election campaign.
In a hearing lasting approximately an hour before the court presided over by Judge Emanuela Cugusi, the governor's lawyers reiterated the weight of the two Constitutional Court rulings against the injunction order of the regional electoral guarantee board, essentially arguing that the Constitutional Court's decision somehow overturns any possibility of forfeiture.
On the contrary, lawyer Riccardo Fercia, counsel for the panel that issued the injunction, reaffirmed the validity of the court's ruling, which reclassified the facts contested against the governor, imposing the heaviest of sanctions and attributing everything to the failure to file the financial report, which would be grounds for forfeiture.
After an hour of back-and-forth, the judges decided to enter the deliberation chamber, and the ruling will be filed and notified to the parties within 30 days.
