Todde's Decline, Decisive Hours for the Appeal. The Council of State Reprimands the Voting Rules on the Island: Confused Law

That the chaos over the dismissal of the president (and therefore the risk of a return to the polls) could also be linked to the lack of clarity of the Sardinian electoral law is now the belief of many. But since yesterday the complexity and confusion of the rules by which one votes on the Island have also been certified by the Council of State , in the sentence that definitively rejected the appeal of the candidate Pierluigi Saiu (Lega) against the elected Pietro Maieli (Psd'Az).
"The legislation", it is stated, "is formulated in convoluted and confused terms, often imprecise and non-homogeneous", complicating the "numerous and poorly coordinated phases of calculation of the "quotients", the "remainder" and the "residual" votes". Hence the hope "that in its autonomy, the regional legislator of Sardinia will evaluate, for the future, the appropriate initiatives aimed at redefining a linear and readily applicable legislation".
Once the law is in place, it could also be clarified, once and for all, how the rules on electoral expenses, devised in 1993 for parliamentarians, should be implemented precisely.
Meanwhile, the appeal by the President of the Region, Alessandra Todde, is expected to be filed in Court against the injunction order with which the Electoral Guarantee Board of the Court of Appeal ordered the governor's dismissal due to serious irregularities in the reporting of financing and expenses incurred during the election campaign.
Lawyers Benedetto and Stefano Ballero, Giuseppe Macciotta and Priamo Siotto are finalizing the finishing touches: the filing will be done electronically today or at the latest on Monday.
