"A research infrastructure unlike any other in Europe, unique in its kind, characterized by innovation, cutting-edge technology, and first-rate research, it will lead to observations of the universe 1000 times greater than anything achieved to date."
Regional President Alessandra Todde stated this in an interview with Il Sole 24 Ore, speaking about the construction of the Einstein Telescope in Lula: "It's a transformative project," she added , "which will attract further research initiatives and the establishment of high-value-added production facilities. A profound socioeconomic transformation, with the employment of 2,000 people per year for 12 years and the arrival of an international scientific community. Furthermore, supporting projects such as laboratories, international schools, and construction sites will emerge."
The gravitational wave scientific community, Todde continues, "includes over 1,800 scholars worldwide, over 600 of whom are Italian. We are world leader in this field. This candidacy has supported, with PNRR funds, the construction of a dozen INFN laboratories in various parts of Italy. We have committed €350 million for the construction of the facility, €20 million for the renovation of a dam and the construction of an access road to Sos Enattos, €8 million for the Sologo industrial area, and €20 million, together with the MUR, for a research center. We have the best site and the largest scientific community on these subjects. We were the first to hold the preliminary services conference on both configurations (triangle, ET at a single site, or L, ET at two sites), with favorable opinions from 54 entities."
What are the advantages of Lula's site? "The site's characteristics," concludes the governor of Sardinia, "which are unique in the world in terms of seismic performance, human noise, and the ease of tunnel construction."
