Activation of the dynamic list system: those who miss an appointment automatically free up their slot for others. SMS and email reminders to avoid unexcused absences. Penalties for no-shows: no more missed appointments . And more: reserved slots, controlled overbooking, extended hours and special opening hours of hospitals , and complete transparency of outpatient schedules.

These are the cornerstones of the regional government's strategy to reduce waiting lists in Sardinia's healthcare system , listed by governor Alessandra Todde in a long Facebook post entitled "From defeatism to facts".

In her statement, the regional president touts the results achieved by her administration in the first 17 months of government in terms of healthcare.

"As a citizen, I understand how unfair it is to have to wait months for an MRI, a CT scan, or a check-up. And as president, I get very angry when I read that so many of my fellow citizens are forced to leave for treatment," Todde writes in the post. He adds, "But I, as president of the Region, must move forward, because I and my government are responsible for governing and, above all, for the well-being of Sardinians."

"There are those who continue to paint Sardinia as an island where everything goes wrong and nothing works , even with data dating back to the first few months of the year and ignoring the last six," the governor continues. She then lists the main milestones achieved , such as "laying the foundations for a single regional CUP, making access to services simpler and more transparent, and reducing waiting lists ," the reactivation of key departments such as orthopedics in Iglesias and breast surgery in Nuoro, the launch of the regional oncology network and tumor registry, the completion of telemedicine trials, and the relaunch of translational research, including the project to sequencing the Sardinian population's genome. And, again, "we have closed the 2022 accounts, which had been stalled for years, and approved the 2024–2026 budgets."

"Is everything okay? Of course not," Todde concludes. "We know there are still many problems, but the direction is clear: step by step, Sardinian healthcare is changing. Not with slogans, but with hard work and action. And the facts tell us that with hard work, courage, and faith, we can give citizens back the services they deserve."
