The Ecocenter built by Cosir in the tourist district of Solanas is still closed. Its opening is now expected to be imminent. Meanwhile, the issue has been brought up in the City Council with a motion presented by Forza Italia councilors Walter Zucca and Roberta Simoni, followed by interventions by Deputy Mayor Katiuscia Concas and minority councilors Roberto Loi and Aldo Lobina.
Everyone agrees on the need to finally open the facility, which is currently being blocked by a request for documentation from the Metropolitan City and by traffic congestion near the eco-centre along the road to the new Orientale Sarda.
Councilor Concas discussed her and Mayor Barbara Pusceddu's ongoing requests to Cosir. Opening next week was envisioned. Confirmation is pending. Meanwhile, there are concerns about illegal landfills, which could damage Solanas' image and inconvenience tourists and vacationers.
"We hope the recycling center can open as soon as possible," Zucca said. "We need to allow Solanas residents, whether they own second homes or are tourists, to drop off their waste before returning home for the work week. We've been asking for this since December, as soon as the city council changed the rules for waste sorting, reducing door-to-door service in anticipation of the opening of the new recycling center."
Councilor Concas assured "the municipal offices' commitment to breaking the impasse, acknowledging the opposition's reasons and considering a temporary solution should the process be extended."
To address the emergency, Zucca and Simoni are asking to return to the old schedule: "If these traffic issues delay the opening," Concas responded, "we are willing to revert to the old 2025 schedule. We therefore plan to reinstate the double collection of glass, plastic, and paper; for residual waste, collection will remain set at once a week."
Obviously, everyone hopes the eco-center will open immediately. "We're working toward this," added Councilor Concas. Councilors Loi and Lobina also spoke in the Council meeting. Meanwhile, tourists and residents of Solanas are waiting to use a facility that is essential for health and image.
