In Gesico, snails take center stage in a challenge that, year after year, continues to captivate adults and children alike.

Among the most anticipated and original events of the traditional Snail Festival, the Snail Race returns today, Friday, October 16th. This event transforms slowness into a fun spectacle, where children's enthusiasm spreads to adults as well. The event is scheduled from 3:30 to 4:30 pm at the Municipal Gym , where the qualifying rounds, the "Sprint Out," and finally the final round will be held, which will determine the winners. At the end of the race, there will be an awards ceremony, with 100 bumper car tokens up for grabs. This unique competition, which annually provides moments of joy and curiosity, confirms itself as one of the most characteristic events of the Gesichese festival.

On the track, powerful engines and lightning-fast acceleration aren't needed: what makes the difference are patience, persistence, and, of course, the friendly spirit of the little racers . The crowd follows every stage of the competition with enthusiasm, cheering, smiling, and eagerly awaiting the first snail to cross the finish line.

An event designed especially for children, but capable of engaging the whole family. The day will continue at 6:00 PM with one of the most heartfelt moments of local religious tradition. Holy Mass will be celebrated in the parish church of Santa Giusta, followed by a procession with Sant'Amatore to the shrine dedicated to the saint. The procession will be accompanied by folk groups from Gesico, Villanovafranca, Senorbì, Siurgus Donigala, and Guasila, along with the sounds of the launeddas and the accordion of Sandro Frau and Edoardo Manca. A day that combines the fun of a folk festival with the devotion and traditions of the area, celebrating a community that renews its connection to the Snail Festival each year.
