The road strewn with nails to delay the arrival of the police, the destroyed cameras, the shutter smashed by an off-road vehicle, the firefight with the owner's father.
These are the details emerging from the attack on the armory that took place on the night between Saturday and Sunday in Sardara, along the ring road of the spa town, where four hooded bandits in an SUV and a sedan fled, taking with them several rifles, pistols, and ammunition.
The reconstruction
The raid on the "Caccia-Pesca-Sport" gun shop owned by Silvia Steri, 48, on Via Ariosto could have ended in tragedy. After breaking down the shutters, the thieves smashed the armored display cases where the weapons were stored and proceeded to steal them, placing the rifles one by one in boxes they had already packed for transport. They had also destroyed the cameras and, even before that, scattered the street with three-headed nails (which resulted in dozens of cars suffering punctures).
The shooting
The owner's father, Isaia Steri, 79, who lives on the upper floor of the building, was awakened by the commotion and looked out the window to see what was happening. But the bandits noticed him and opened fire. A near-tragedy occurred: "A barrage of bullets hit the glass, the wall, and around the window. The only thing I could think of was to return fire with my rifle," the man recounted. At that point, the bandits fled in their SUV.
The owner
"When the alarm went off, I rushed there with my husband. It's an indescribable moment. Twenty-two years to build a business, only to see it treacherously destroyed in a few hours," Silvia Steri says in desperation. "Getting the armory back on track in these times of crisis won't be easy, but I've already started working on it to do what I can."
The investigations
Carabinieri from the Arbus and Sardara stations and the Mobile Radio Operations Unit responded to the scene. They gathered evidence to reconstruct the sequence of events. The scene surveys, the examination of the shell casings on the asphalt, and the cameras that may have captured some images before being destroyed are currently being examined.
