From May 19 to 22, Cagliari welcomes the unmistakable profile of the Amerigo Vespucci, the most famous training ship of the Navy, for the fourteenth stage of the Mediterranean Tour. The landing is scheduled at Banchina Ichnusa, where the elegant sailing ship will be celebrated with official ceremonies, musical performances and cultural and social initiatives .
Vespucci will sail the Gulf of Cagliari side by side with Luna Rossa, winner of the Unicredit Youth America's Cup, combining seafaring tradition with the innovation and competitive spirit of the new generation of sailors.
Also starring is the ship's commander, Captain Giuseppe Lai, originally from Ozieri , who on May 20 will be awarded the prestigious "Ozieri Lions Award for culture and social commitment". The recognition, which has celebrated personalities of high civil and cultural value since 1982, seals not only the career of a man of the sea, but also the commitment of an entire ship to represent Italy in its many aspects: history, beauty, research and solidarity.
The Mediterranean Tour was born from an idea of the Minister of Defense Guido Crosetto, with the involvement of 12 ministries , to bring the legacy of the World Tour to 18 Italian ports, which for 20 months stopped in 30 countries, exporting the cultural “made in Italy”: innovation, art, gastronomy, technology and humanitarian spirit.
Among the events planned during the stopover in Cagliari, there will also be the participation of the Francesca Rava Foundation , which will come on board on May 20 with a group of young people included in the “Borse Blu” project, designed to give new opportunities to young people from fragile contexts.
The presence of the Band of the “Sassari” Brigade and the Fanfare of the Academy of Livorno, who will perform for the public, will ideally accompany the ship in an embrace between the territory, the armed forces and the citizens.
The Vespucci ship, which 93 years after its first launch continues to enchant with its beauty, remains one of the strongest symbols of Italian culture: a floating museum, a traveling school, a silent ambassador that tells the story of the country.
