Eighty-one years ago, he died in Poland during World War II. The remains of Lazzarino Pinna , a soldier from Maracalagonis, were found in Lambinowice, thanks to extraordinary collaboration between Italy and Poland , which made it possible to trace the remains of around thirty Italian soldiers who died in the Eastern European country during the war. On Tuesday, Lazzarino Pinna will finally be buried in the town cemetery.

The soldier's remains are at home in Maracalagonis, where they have been draped in the Italian flag for several days at a relative's home. On Tuesday afternoon, in conjunction with the November 2nd celebrations, a mass will be celebrated, followed by the transfer to the cemetery on the outskirts of town. The entire town is expected to attend. The municipal administration and the band will be present to lay a wreath and carry out the final burial of the remains.

The story.

A few months ago, a Carabinieri officer from the Maracalagonis station had given the news of the discovery of the remains to the Pinna family, knocking on the house of Iride , one of the closest relatives of the Sardinian soldier.

The Carabiniere was met by Antonio Tronci , a 42-year-old engineer (Iride's son), who was informed of the recovery of his distant uncle's body. There was a possibility of bringing the remains of the soldier, who had fallen in the war and was identified by a tag he wore with his serial numbers, back to Maracalagonis.

The other day, Antonio Tronci and his mother Iride traveled to Rome by boat and car, invited to the Fosse Ardeatine Mausoleum, where the funeral urns of the Italian soldiers had arrived from Poland. They then returned to Maracalagonis, where the funeral was held with full honors on Tuesday.
