He was reported missing . The Maracalagonis soldier Lazzarino Pinna , who died in 1944 in Poland during the Second World War, was found after many years, buried in Lambinowice, thanks to an extraordinary collaboration between Italy and Poland which made it possible to trace the bodies of around thirty Italian soldiers who died in the Eastern European country during the conflict.

A few months ago, a Carabinieri officer from the Maracalagonis station had given the news of the discovery of the remains to the Pinna family, knocking on the house of Iride , one of the closest relatives of the Sardinian soldier.

The Carabiniere was met by Antonio Tronci , a 42-year-old engineer (Iride's son), who was informed of the recovery of his distant uncle's body. There was a possibility of bringing the remains of the soldier, who had fallen in the war and was identified by a tag he wore with his serial numbers, back to Maracalagonis.

The other day, Antonio Tronci and his mother Iride traveled to Rome by boat and car, invited to the Fosse Ardeatine Mausoleum, where the funeral urns of the Italian soldiers had arrived from Poland. They then returned to Maracalagonis. The soldier's remains are now at the Pinna home, wrapped in the Italian flag. He will be buried and laid to rest in the town cemetery on November 4th during the War Memorial Ceremony.

The Municipality has prepared the celebration: the entire town, led by the administration, will participate in the final farewell to the little great hero.
