The Region wants to increase the salaries of the "managing directors" of the mayor of the metropolitan cities of Sardinia: Cagliari and Sassari, therefore. And the increase, if approved, would have retroactive effect: 6,654.78 euros per month will have to be recognized since the settlement, which dates back to 2019.

The reform of the 2016 law is contained in an amendment to the related to the Finance Act, which is about to enter the regional council, on a proposal from the Giunta.

It concerns the metropolitan councilors who, in fact, carry out the functions that once belonged to the provincial councilors. For this reason, the Solinas executive proposes that their salaries be «equivalent, pursuant to and by effect of article 82 of Legislative Decree no. 267/2000, to the members of the executive bodies of the regional capital municipality with effect from the current act of appointment".

Therefore: with retroactive effect, the delegates would get to take what the exponents of the junta led by Paolo Truzzu collect, who for some months have been collecting a higher salary, parameterised to that of the mayor (60%), which in turn is linked to that of the president of the Region. In that case, regional resources had been used. With the metropolitan cities, on the other hand, no allocations are foreseen from Villa Devoto: the entities concerned will pay for everything

It is not the first time that an attempt has been made to increase the salary of executives in the Metropolitan City: previous attempts had foundered. The spirit of the change, reads the explanatory report, is to eliminate inequalities: the higher salary, it is explained, also guarantees the less well-off to be able to act as metropolitan delegate who, currently, receives a "symbolic" allowance.
