Yesterday morning, the Municipality of Sorso handed over the construction site to the company carrying out the architectural redevelopment and safety works of the Billellera Fountain area.
«The workers have already been at work since this morning and if everything proceeds as per the timetable, Sorso will regain possession for all intents and purposes by the next spring season of a site of immense historical, monumental, social and cultural value. Certainly one of the most representative of the life and identity of our Community. When you say Sorso you say Billellera and vivecersa».
Thus the mayor of Sorso, Fabrizio Demelas. In the triangle between the Billellera Fountain, the building of the former civic market, now the municipal library, and the wash house, much of the social life of Sorsense developed even less than a century ago.
For decades, however, this has no longer been the case, and even less so today. «The site of the fountain and the amphitheater, and we must also work on this together with the world of associations, - adds the mayor - will soon return to host musical, theatrical and cultural events more generally, in a completely redeveloped location. The historic entrance, the fence and the gate, the trachyte stairs in their deteriorated parts and the handrails will be redeveloped."
Furthermore, curbs and cobblestones will be rearranged, the amphitheater will be cleaned and restored and the buildings in the upper and lower areas will be renovated and made functional in harmony with the amphitheater. It is also planned to create inclusive routes for disabled people, to renovate all electrical and public lighting, video surveillance, sewage, water and plumbing systems, and to renew existing service rooms. All with techniques, materials and systems with low environmental impact and low energy consumption. Completion of works scheduled for March 2024.
