Eight events, including author talks, an exhibition, music, and a forum for experts to share a passion for books. From July 12th to 20th, "L'Isola dei Libri" returns to Carloforte , the eleventh edition of the festival set amidst the terraces and alleyways that each July transforms the town into a vibrant literary hub, captivating both residents and the many tourists who flock there . Organized by the cultural association Saphyrina , with artistic direction by Lorenza Garbarino, L'Isola dei Libri once again confirms its popular format of events held in the town's most iconic corners and views.
The event kicks off on the afternoon of Sunday, July 12th, at 8:00 PM in Via Magenta with a double event: "When a Place Becomes Writing." Building on last year's publication for the tenth anniversary of Isola dei Libri, which collected testimonials and thoughts from guest authors at various editions, Lorenza Garbarino and Eleonora Carta , organizational director of the Iglesias Book Fair, will discuss the value of literary festivals, both in terms of returns for audiences and authors , and in terms of synergies between the organizers. Following this, Alessandro De Roma, an author translated into several languages, will present his book Il principe rosa (Fandango libri, 2025), the story of Maristella and the journey that leads her to become a mature and self-aware woman. Andrea Luxoro will be in conversation with him.
The following day, Monday the 13th, at 8:30 pm, an exhibition of great artistic and historical value opens at ExMe : "Artist Covers. A Collection from the Kasa dei Libri in Carloforte." Curated by Claudia Vena and organized by Oriana Bassani , the exhibition is organized in collaboration with the Kasa dei Libri, one of Milan's leading cultural institutions, which houses the extensive Andrea Kerbaker collection. It brings to Carloforte around twenty drawings, lithographs, and original works created for avant-garde book covers or editorial projects. Among these are an original gouache découpée by Henri Matisse, a drawing by Sonia Delaunay, and the program files of the Ballets Russes of Monte Carlo, with covers designed by Chagall. The exhibition will be open until July 26th, Tuesday through Thursday, 9:00 am to 12:00 pm and 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm, and Saturday and Sunday, 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm.
On Wednesday the 15th , again at 8:30 pm, the event continues under the Arch on Via Solferino, where journalist and author Angelo Carotenuto, in conversation with Maria Simeone, presents I mondiali immaginari (Immaginari, Sellerio, 2026). The book tells the story of a dazzling football tournament in which past and present coexist without hierarchies, and the most famous and the most unlikely footballing entities face off in impossible matches. On Thursday, July 16th, at 8:30 pm, the 2026 edition of Isola dei Libri will also host journalist Anna Mallamo with her debut book, Col buio me la vedo io, published in 2025 by Einaudi. Described as "the publishing sensation of the year," winner of the SuperMondello Prize and among the books nominated for the Strega Prize, the novel "builds a universe little by little, with strength, coherence, and a stunning imagination." Giusy Cienzo will moderate the evening.
The series continues on Saturday, July 18th , as always at 8:30 pm, at the Arco di Solferino with Davide Longo, in conversation with Giovanna Vitiello, presenting "The Woman in the Attic," published last year by Einaudi in the Stile Libero series. A thriller starring the now-famous detective duo Arcadipane and Bramard.
The final day of the event, Monday, July 20th, will take place in the enchanting Giardino di Note, where at 8:30 pm, Ligurian author Chiara Ferraris will present her latest work, La signora del neroli, published in 2025 by Piemme. A "passionate and emotion-filled" novel, in which the author describes her homeland "with grace and great inspiration." Pierluigia Napoleone will host the event. The evening continues at 10 pm with author and singer-songwriter Erica Mou, who, in conversation with Myriam Quaquero, will discuss her book, Una cosa per la cui mi odierai (Fandango, 2024). The presentation will be enhanced by a mini-live performance for guitar and vocals by the protagonist, who has chosen Carloforte as a stop on her "Cerchi tour," named after her seventh album, released in 2024. L'Isola dei libri is made possible with the support of the Autonomous Region of Sardinia, the Fondazione di Sardegna, and the Municipality of Carloforte.
