The decision-making conference has approved the project for Cagliari's new stadium: "We've been waiting for this news for ten years," said Mayor Massimo Zedda.
A process concluded following the environmental and landscape authorizations obtained with the Single Regional Authorization Provision (formerly Environmental Impact Assessment).
"We will proceed quickly with the next steps," announces the mayor. "As soon as Cagliari Calcio submits its updated economic and financial plan, we can begin the necessary formalities that will lead to the publication of the international tender for the construction and management concession for the new home of football, entertainment, and major events for all Sardinians."
Cagliari is working to deliver the new Financial Planning Document, certified by Unicredit, by the end of the year.
The costs
But how much will the construction of the new stadium cost? Over time, costs have increased compared to the version of the Economic and Financial Planning Document (PEF) submitted in 2022: pending official documents, the estimated value is approximately €187 million plus VAT. That's around €40 million more than it would have cost to build the stadium three years ago.
It remains to be seen how this sum will be distributed among the various stakeholders. The clubs, the region, and the municipality will be the first to do so, but the government's stadium fund is also being considered.
