A landfill inside the old Sant'Elia stadium was discovered by Forestry investigators after a report received by the Prosecutor's Office. An enormous quantity of waste had been disposed of in the former sports facility, much of it from demolitions. It is - according to the first rumors - a ventilation system, dozens of sinks and other toilet furnishings, tons of plasterboard panels, paints, thinners and chemical products for the treatment of the grassy lawn.

An investigation into the matter was opened by deputy prosecutor Rossella Spano who in July ordered the inspection by the rangers of the investigative unit. The Cagliari Calcio sports club (as owner) and the Municipality's Sports Department (as owner of the facility) were notified of the order to carry out the complete reclamation of the former stadium within 60 days.

A fine of 13,500 euros was also imposed. In case of non-compliance with the clean-up order, the Prosecutor's Office could decide to open a case contesting the crime of illegal dumping of dangerous waste . Once the documents have been served, the documents are now in the hands of the lawyers.
