A land of longevity, Sardinia is home to 737 centenarians (six of whom are foreigners), 608 of whom are women. According to an analysis by the Cipnes Gallura Study Center, which processed ISTAT data up to January 1, 2026, the number of residents who have reached their 100th birthday in Sardinia is also increasing: 327 more than in 2019, when there were 410, with a slight decrease of just a few in 2023 and 2024.

Not only in Ogliastra, historically associated with the island's blue zone, the concentration of centenarians is highest in northern Sardinia, with 26 percent of the regional total: 193 one-hundred-year-old residents, 60 of whom are in Gallura. Olbia leads the list of the province's twenty-six municipalities for centenarians, with 12, followed by Arzachena, which has seven, also within the blue zone.

The Cipnes data confirm a broad territorial distribution of longevity: in Southern Sardinia 181 cases were recorded, equal to 24.5 percent of the regional total, in Cagliari 157 equal to 21.3 percent, in Nuoro 123 equal to 16.6 percent and in Oristano 83 equal to 11.2 percent.
