In the youngest city in Italy, the prehistoric rite of the night of San Giovanni has taken on an almost magical meaning, which many visitors celebrated yesterday in the pre-nuragic necropolis of Cannas di Sotto thanks to the initiative of the managers of the archaeological and museum sites in the municipal area of Carbonia (Sardinia culture system consortium).
In what is in fact a sacred place since 5000 years ago the ancient inhabitants of the hill placed their deceased there, in the special underground tombs dug into the tuff, many have agreed to celebrate the night of St. John with a thematic visit focused on rituals of the Neolithic period and with the preparation of "s'acua de is froris" (flower water), accompanied by songs and readings.
Thanks to the Noah's Ark association, the ancient rite to consolidate or tighten relationships between cronies and gossips was rediscovered last night. The pre-nuragic site is nestled in the urban circuit between the buildings of Corso Iglesias and the residential area of Santa Caterina: it was rescued from degradation just about twenty years ago. There are a few dozen tombs dating back to the Neolithic period around 3500 BC.
