The Palestinian flag, displayed on the façade of the Cabras City Hall as a symbolic gesture of solidarity, is not enough. Opposition Councilor Antonello Manca is asking all municipal administrators to forgo their allowances and attendance fees for the next three years, to use their savings to support child victims of the Israeli-Palestinian war.
This is the content of the motion that Manca filed with the Municipality.
"Given that over €300,000 was spent on the Bottarga Festival, and that the Mont'e Prama Foundation, over the summer, organized events and concerts with large sums of public money, without ever considering allocating any of these resources to humanitarian initiatives," the document states. "And given that institutional solidarity cannot be limited to symbolic acts, a renunciation of allowances and fees by administrators would represent an act of civil and institutional responsibility and a positive example for all citizens."
But that's not all. The motion requires the mayor to waive the allowances he receives as vice president of the Sinis Marine Protected Area and the Mont'e Prama Foundation. The resulting savings should be entirely allocated to supporting Palestinian children who are victims of the war, through humanitarian organizations.
The motion also provides that for the three years of validity of the motion, an annual report certifying the amount of the funds donated, the recipients and the results achieved be prepared and published on the institutional website of the Municipality of Cabras.
"I hope this action," the motion reads, "will serve as an example and inspiration for other municipalities in the Province of Oristano and Sardinia, so that other local governments will also make decisions of genuine solidarity."
