The municipal swimming pool on Via dello Sport in Cagliari has been closed again. Starting January 26, 2026, the facility will be unusable for approximately ten days due to maintenance work related to a serious leak in the heating circuit, located under the surface and affecting the changing rooms and restrooms for athletes. The work involves replacing some sections of the facility and several radiators.

The suspension of activity has reignited controversy over the state of the facility. City Councilor Stefania Loi, a member of the Brothers of Italy party, has submitted a question to the councilor for Sport, Leisure, and Sports Facilities.

«Interventions of this type are being repeated on an almost monthly basis – highlights Loi – with serious inconveniences for sports clubs, operators and users, forced to give up training days and a regular schedule of activities».

The question asks the municipal administration what initiatives it has taken to date to permanently resolve the issues causing the recurring closures, and why extraordinary maintenance or a comprehensive renovation has not been planned for the summer, when the facility is traditionally closed during the months of July and August.

"The management of sports facilities cannot continue to be handled in an emergency ," the councilor concludes. "Serious, forward-looking planning is needed to ensure continuity of use, protect the work of sports clubs, and ensure citizens' rights to use efficient and reliable public facilities."
