Pollutants. They are the cause of the statements of those who claim that Sardinia cannot say no to the assault of renewable energy production plants because, according to statistics, it is the region that pollutes the most to produce energy . And yet it is the Government that does not want to shut down the coal power plants of Fiumesanto and Grazia Deledda in Portovesme: with the climate of war they must guarantee the electricity supply to the country in the event of "unforeseen" problems with other sources of energy support.
The thesis, which ultimately reflects the position of the Government, is by the Minister of the Environment Gilberto Pichetto Fratin , who spoke at the Festival dell'Economia in Trento organized by Gruppo 24 Ore and Trentino Marketing. On the dismantling of coal power plants, he admits, «we must be cautious because we have a war in Ukraine».

"I have always asked a question," explains the minister, "who among us is sure that an accident cannot happen in one of the pipelines? The Algerian one brings us 25 to 30 billion cubic meters of gas: we must also protect ourselves in some way against the risks that may arise."
Pichetto Fratin knows it: «Coal is the most polluting of all and consequently my intention, as a Government, was to say: we no longer produce electricity with coal from large continental power plants», namely Brindisi and Civitavecchia, «while it remains in Sardinia because it is the only solution to guarantee the quantity of energy».
