The mayor of Esporlatu, Antonio Fadda, and his wife Sonia Carta, both under investigation in the Polo Ovest operation by the Cagliari DDA, have exercised their right to remain silent.
The couple, represented by criminal lawyer Sergio Milia, appeared before the investigating judge for preliminary hearing. Their defense, for now, is maintaining silence. According to the District Anti-Mafia Directorate, Fadda (a soldier in the Sassari Brigade) allegedly managed a marijuana supply chain in the Sassari area with his wife, on behalf of Martino Contu (55, from Bitti), one of the alleged bigwigs of Polo Ovest. Lawyer Sergio Milia declined to comment.
Antonio Fadda remains at the helm of the Municipality of Esporlatu (as well as president of the Goceano mountain community).
The preliminary hearings concluded yesterday, with most of those arrested by the Olbia Carabinieri exercising their right to remain silent. Operation West Pole will soon be brought before the Review Court.
