Acquitted on 13 charges because the facts were not proven . "When I think back to the harsh and, in my opinion, unjust measures used against me ( house arrest, expulsion from the country, comments, sensational and, at times, untrue reports ), I still feel a profound sense of bitterness. Even today, it all seems so disproportionate, senseless, and, in some ways, outrageous. All of this hurts, truly, and it hurts even more to think that it all began with spontaneous, gratuitous, misleading revelations of the facts, made to investigators by a so-called confidential source, certainly driven by an absurd hatred towards me, with a sick idea of destruction not only political and administrative, but also human, social, and familial."

With these words Tore Ghisu, acquitted after 11 years of defamatory accusations , makes his state of mind known, four days after the sentence pronounced by the Court of Appeal of Cagliari, which definitively acquitted him of as many as 13 charges.

"The many warm expressions of esteem and support that have reached me in recent days, in various ways," he writes, "have truly moved me and increase the sense of satisfaction I felt upon learning, after an 11-year wait, the outcome of the ruling issued by the judges of the Court of Appeal. Eleven years of intense suffering, precariousness, and uncertainty have constantly and profoundly undermined my life, raising so many questions ; even though I have always tried, in the most difficult moments, to find the strength and courage to move forward, supported by my unwavering belief in the correctness of my actions as mayor of my town and, at the same time, by the belief that justice would uphold my rights. Precisely for this reason , I felt compelled to waive the statute of limitations , especially for the many citizens who have always shown their support, which has led to my being elected mayor of my town several times."

The mayor thanks his fellow citizens, friends, family, mayors, and colleagues from across the island. "I would like to dedicate a special memory to Giovannino Murgia (who passed away a couple of years ago, while he was a city councilor at the time of these events), who always encouraged me and, with trepidation and trust, awaited the moment when the judges would recognize my reasons, my innocence, and declare the crime unfounded. Unfortunately, he did not live long enough."
