The Grande Mine di Carbonia gets a new look and redeems itself from degradation thanks to the former Ati Ifras workers : the area that houses the ancient locomotive from the 1940s has been completely cleaned up and now maximum attention is paid to the entrance in front of Piazza Sergio Usai.

These interventions are coordinated by the Geomineral Park which for about a year has been based in Carbonia right inside the large Serbariu mine: the technical offices operate.

It was a project of the Geopark that made it possible to employ a dozen former Ati Ifras workers who for many years in the past have been involved in restoring and maintaining important archaeological sites, including the areas of the Nuraghe Sirai of Carbonia. But even the Great Mine was in indecent conditions: some illegal waste deposits disappeared, several sectors were completely attacked by uncontrolled vegetation, the decor was not the best despite the site being frequented by about 20,000 visitors a year .

Unfortunately, illegal landfills are also present in a historic internal building but this will be dealt with by the Sotacarbo Scientific Research Center (which is itself located in the Great Mine) as part of the development of an independent energy community project. The intervention of the workers is also assisted by the museum guides of the Coal Museum, perfect connoisseurs of the former industrial complex.
