The warm embrace, with kiss, of the mayor Fabio Lai to the deputy mayor of Ajaccio, Alex Farina, in the town hall square, to the sound of the anthem of Mameli, the Marseillaise, the Corso and the Maddalenino, sealed, after 33 years, the twinning between the two cities signed in 1991 by the then mayors, Giuseppe Deligia and Charles Ornano.
A strong bond between La Maddalena and the Corsican capital last July 22nd was confirmed an hour later in the parish church of Santa Maria Maddalena with the presence and concelebration of the Mass of the vicar general of Ajaccio and Corsica, Msgr. Frederic Constant and three other priests. Mass presided over by the diocesan bishop, Msgr., in the presence of the local civil and military authorities, with a massive presence of faithful. Roberto Fornaciari. All as part of the patronal celebrations of Santa Maria Maddalena (Mary of Magdala), which saw a Corsican delegation of over 35 people including administrators, priests, brotherhood and companions arrive on the island. This visit will be reciprocated in March, in Corsica, on the occasion of the feast of the Madonnuccia, patron saint of Ajaccio.
The celebrations had begun, in La Maddalena, the day before, with the large presence of the public who attended Francesco Gabbani's concert, in Piazza Umberto I; with the Navy which wanted to honor the patron saint with the presence of Nave Italia in the port of the historic center of La Maddalena; and with a Mass, followed by a sea procession which saw the participation of around thirty boats.
