Sardinia spends almost 74 million euros a year to have its patients treated outside the island.

The journeys of hope for the Sardinian sick have not stopped even in the midst of the pandemic. In fact, the latest Gimbe report refers to 2020, and the island suffers from a negative balance of regional health mobility, equal to 57,616,013 euros.

Let's talk about the difference between the amount spent to treat patients arriving from other regions in Sardinia (16,367,089 credits, 19th position in Italy) and the amount spent to have Sardinians treated outside the island (73,983,192 euros of debts, 16th position ).

The per capita health mobility balance is negative and equals 36 euros, with Sardinia ranking 16th among the Italian regions.

Gimbe also analyzed the volume of hospitalizations and specialist services provided by private structures, "an indicator of the presence and attractiveness of the accredited private sector".

Sardinia ranks 17th with private facilities providing 14.5% of the total value of active regional healthcare mobility, compared to the Italian average which is, however, 52.7%.

In detail, ordinary hospitalizations and day hospitals are equal to 13.2% (Italian average 53.5%) placing the island in 18th position. As regards specialist outpatients, on the other hand, we are at 22.6% (Italian average 49%).
