There is no respite for Sardinia , where the countryside continues to burn . This afternoon, the regional firefighting system was engaged on several fronts , with fires reported in the areas of Pattada, San Sperate, Villasor, Decimomannu and Siurgus Donigala .
Among the most critical events were two fires located just a few dozen kilometers apart: one between Villasor and San Sperate, closer to the latter town.
The wind-driven flames have affected some farms where there were bales of fodder and teams on the ground with helicopters are trying to stop the fire from reaching some country houses.
To provide greater support, the Forestry Corps has arranged for the dispatch of the SuperPuma helicopter from the Oristano operational base (Fenosu) and a Canadair from the national air fleet.
The air assets complement the deployment of ground forces, coordinated by the Dolianova forestry station and supported by the "Orsa" and "No.Va.Orsa" volunteer teams.
Mayor Fabrizio Madeddu is also on site and is assessing the situation to decide on any evacuations.
The other point of fire started outside the Decimomannu Air Force base , where an HH139 helicopter is stationed in firefighting mode, but the flames, driven by the wind, reached right inside the airport - now home to the Italian top gun school, the International Flight Training School - where the base's teams are operating together with the helicopter.
Flames also broke out in Siurgus Donigala , in the Prunas Ruinas area . A helicopter from the Villasalto Forestry Corps base was deployed to contain the fire. On the ground, the Senorbì Forestas team and volunteers from the local AVPC association went into action, under the coordination of the DOS of the Senorbì forestry station.
In Pattada , the flames affected the Frida area . Teams from the Forestry Corps and Environmental Surveillance from the Pattada and Buddusò stations responded to the scene, supported by Forestas workers from the Monte Lerno construction site. The extinguishing operations were coordinated by the director of firefighting operations (DOS) of the Pattada forestry station.
Another fire is currently active in the Pozzomaggiore area, in the Siminari area. Ground crews responded quickly to the scene to contain the flames and begin cleanup operations. Firefighting efforts are being coordinated by personnel from the Forestry and Environmental Protection Corps (CFVA) at the Bonorva station.
