The plan was to rob the cash-in-transit van carrying 30 kilos of gold bars to Arezzo, with an estimated value of €6 million . The group was poised to strike at any moment, intending to stop the vehicle on its way to Olbia, already in the industrial zone of San Gavino. They also targeted the foundry's vault , where they would have found many more bars. The raid led to the seizure of weapons, explosives, and ten stolen vehicles, including a tow truck used in the robbery.

These are the names of those arrested in yesterday's raid: Giancarlo Bassu, 51, resident of Pabillonis; Gian Michele Cadau, 56, resident of Fonni; Francesco Carta, 50, born in Sorgono and resident of Olbia; Stefano Falconi, 41, born in Reggio Emilia and resident of Fonni; Luca Montanari, 54, from San Gavino Monreale; Luigi Antonio Mulvoni, 37, resident of San Gavino but originally from Desulo, like his uncle, Roberto Mario Mulvoni, 62; Adriano Nono Poddie, 51, from Fonni; Salvatore Domenico Stochino, 42, from Arzana; and Riccardo Sulis, 27, born in Isili and resident of Villanova Tulo. Raffaele Loddo, 32, from Fonni, is currently unaccounted for.

The mole

The role of the mole, which gave the operation its name, "Golden Mole," was crucial. According to investigators, Luca Montanari, a worker at the San Gavino foundry, provided the group with confidential information essential to the heist: photos of the armored vans and the production site, documenting the entrances, internal routes, security systems, and sensitive points of the facility.
