The first direct flight from Amsterdam landed at Alghero Airport today, Easter Monday, marking a significant milestone for the airport and for the entire northwest Sardinia region, which now has a direct flight to the Dutch capital for the first time. The new route, operated by Transavia, will operate twice-weekly until October 23, expanding the international offering and strengthening the destination's positioning in Europe's most dynamic markets. To celebrate the arrival of the first flight, Sogeaal organized a welcoming ceremony with the traditional ribbon-cutting ceremony. Transavia, a low-cost airline of the Air France-KLM group, is one of Europe's leading leisure carriers, with over 125 routes and approximately 10 million passengers carried annually.
The presence at the Alghero airport is set to further strengthen with the direct flight to Paris, operating from April 18th to October 24th. "The flight to Amsterdam is one of the most important new features of 2026," commented Silvio Pippobello of Sogeaal. "Together with the Paris route, it demonstrates Transavia's confidence in the potential of northwest Sardinia and marks the start of a strategic collaboration aimed at growing international traffic."
The goal, Sogeaal management emphasizes, is to expand the network to high-potential markets and promote the deseasonalization of tourist flows. With this new connection, Alghero Airport consolidates its role as an international gateway to the north of the island, with expected benefits for the entire local economy.
