The communities of Sedilo and Bosa joined together in a single, emotional embrace to bid farewell to Don Paolino Fancello , "the people's priest." The funeral ceremony, held in his hometown of Sedilo, was presided over by the bishop of the diocese of Alghero-Bosa, Mauro Maria Morfino , in the presence of numerous priests, members of local confraternities, and those of Tresnuraghes , the parish where Don Paolino had ministered for twenty years. Many local administrators were present, including mayors Salvatore Pes of Sedilo, Alfonso Marras of Bosa, and Gianluigi Mastinu of Tresnuraghes.

The entire sports world also paid tribute to him. Delegations from Calmedia, the club he founded, and Cs Bosa , led by presidents Tore Marche and Vincenzo Cuccuru , were present. In his homily, Bishop Morfino recalled the depth of his work. " The legacy he leaves behind is not to be squandered as the most authentic proclaimer of the Gospel. His was a life well-fulfilled ." Alessandro Ibba of Radio Planargia and former Calmedia coach Bernardo Amicuzzi also delivered touching messages.

Among those most moved was former athlete and godson Mariano Masala , who was very close to the priest. His coffin was covered with his number eight jersey and the Gospel. Don Paolino leaves a deep void, but also an example that will live on in everyone's hearts.
