The Cagliari Opera House approves its budget, which auditors rejected: "Financial stability at risk."
The document includes a forecast of millions of dollars in revenue "not supported by adequate evidence" to justify it. Truzzu (FdI) to Todde: "Do you intend to intervene?"Per restare aggiornato entra nel nostro canale Whatsapp
The Teatro Lirico di Cagliari approves a budget that had been rejected by the auditors. And the shadow of "unbalanced finances" looms over the Foundation on Via Sant'Alenixedda.
The reconstruction of the incident is reported in the text of a question in the Regional Council signed by the Brothers of Italy party, with former Cagliari mayor Paolo Truzzu as the first signatory. The questions are posed to President Alessandra Todde and the Councilor for Culture: the Region is implicated because, like the MIC, it appoints a member of the Steering Committee that governs the Lirico. And it is providing the money.
The auditors' opinion is dated December 24: the minutes of the meeting "highlighted that the Foundation's income statement for 2026 shows a significant increase of €4,913,133 compared to the preliminary 2025 budget , and this change is "essentially attributable to the forecast of an increase in 'revenues, sales and services' (concessions, subscriptions/ticketing, sponsorships) and 'Other revenues and income' (Other income from fundraising/donations)" which "do not appear to be supported by suitable objective elements on which to base the estimates to ensure their reliability, but are essentially based on growth expectations (linked to the desirable and indeed optimistic prospect of a significant increase in artistic production and the finding of new financiers)".
Furthermore, in making its calculations, the Foundation allegedly failed to "comply with the rules governing the preparation and setting of the financial budget, with potential consequences for maintaining the economic balance." Hence the unfavorable opinion.
A few days later, on the 29th, the Board of Directors acknowledged the negative opinion but still approved the budget "with specific requirements," the question states. The approval was granted "provided that the superintendent updates the Board of Directors on a monthly basis regarding cash flow, ticketing activities, and any sponsorships and donations, as well as, in what appears to be a highly extraordinary measure, the obligation to promptly submit any budget changes to the Board of Directors."
According to Truzzu and colleagues, the Board of Directors should have "provided adequate justification" to ignore the auditors' opinion, and the resolution does not provide any evidence.
Todde and the councilor are being asked to state whether they intend to take action to ensure compliance with the Lirico's budget balance and, if so, what actions they intend to implement to ensure accounting regularity.
