Bread as a healthy food with zero-mile flours, but also a testimony to ancient knowledge. There is a fragrance that tells stories, hands that knead memory and future, and a name that for decades has been synonymous with authenticity and that from today can boast a starred bread. In fact, at the Panificio Cherchi in Olmedo, as a seal of a long tradition made of passion and craftsmanship, the prestigious “Massimo Alberini” Award 2025 from the Italian Academy of Cuisine has arrived, a national recognition reserved for excellence that preserves and passes on Italian gastronomic culture.
The award ceremony took place on July 4th in Pedramare. A sober but intense ceremony, full of meaning for those who, like Antonio Masia and the entire Cherchi family, have made bread a mission, a daily art form. "It's a day that made us reflect on the path we've taken," commented Masia, "an award that, truth be told, we're not the only ones who deserve it. It would have been wonderful if our great maestro, Antonio Cherchi , had been there to collect it. If we're here today, it's only thanks to him."
Simple words, full of gratitude and pride. Because behind every loaf of bread, every leavening, every oven lit at dawn, there is a story of dedication that has been passed down for generations. "We are proud of it anyway," added Masia, "and this award honors us. We will continue our work, thanks also to you who support us every day." The Alberini Award , named after the founder of the Academy, celebrates those who preserve the roots of Italian taste.
