Not everything in the Municipality's amendment to the "Green Routes" project, which modifies the bike paths at Cep and Fonsarda, is worth rejecting. This is according to Cagliari's FIAB, one of the associations representing cyclists.

The new plan will connect San Benedetto to Terramaini Park with a 3 km cycle/pedestrian path. The changes introduced by the Municipality in the variant specifically include the creation of a single two-way path, eliminating the one-way path on Via Flavio Gioia and Via Castiglione.

"The Via Flavio Gioia cycle path has never been suitable," says Virgilio Scanu , president of Fiab Cagliari. "It's narrow, in poor condition, and almost unusable, and the signage is no longer there. So I agree with much of the purpose of the changes; the route needs to be upgraded."

Scanu believes that Cagliari's cycle paths should, where possible, be one-way, but at the same time, after examining the road sections on the bypass map, he states that the proposal for a two-way path with a green space and associated kerb "could be an acceptable solution."

The president of the Cagliari branch of the association, however, also voiced criticism: "The two-way cycle path along the route stops at the intersection with Via Talete, then continues to Via Vesalio on a one-way route. Furthermore, the cycle path from Via Flavio Gioia to Via Castiglione will be removed, as will the on-demand traffic light on Via Vesalio, at the intersection with Via Gioia."

And he accuses the municipal administration of not engaging with industry associations: " They have never consulted us , we ask once again to be listened to before making decisions regarding cycling mobility."
