An organized system that would have illegally managed over 26 thousand tons of textile waste , accumulating it in warehouses transformed into illegal landfills in Northern Italy or illegally exporting it abroad.

This is what emerged from an investigation coordinated by the Brescia District Anti-Mafia Directorate, which led to the execution of a precautionary seizure aimed at confiscating assets worth approximately 12 million euros.

The operation was conducted by the Brescia Forestry Carabinieri and the order, issued by the Brescia investigating judge, concerns the entire business complex of a Brescia-based company active in the waste recovery sector , a fleet of articulated trucks used for transport and numerous financial relationships and properties distributed between the provinces of Brescia, Verona, Mantua, Lodi and Nuoro .

According to investigators, the organization collected textile waste, mostly from Tuscany, at particularly competitive prices, while avoiding the required sorting and sanitization operations.

The waste was then reclassified as "End of Waste" recovered material and transferred to 15 industrial warehouses located in nine provinces of Lombardy, Veneto, Emilia-Romagna, and Piedmont.

To obtain the properties, they allegedly used shell companies registered to front men in precarious financial circumstances. Once the warehouses were saturated with waste, the group allegedly stopped paying rent, turning the buildings and surrounding areas into huge illegal landfills. Some of the waste was also allegedly exported illegally to Turkey. Twenty people are under investigation in the proceedings for illegal waste trafficking and other crimes. The administrative liability of the company involved is also being contested, with the aim of targeting the alleged financial profit derived from the illegal activities.
