Work has begun to remove the wreckage of migrant boats abandoned for years at Capo Malfatano, a gem on the Teulada coast.

The project was made possible thanks to funding from the regional Department of the Environment, earmarked for the Municipality: €50,000 will be spent to dispose of approximately 30 vessels in a landfill—after a census of the materials—most of them abandoned since 2019 by Algerians who crossed from North Africa and then tried to disappear. However, they left their vessels there. Some—four or five of them—sunk under the force of Cyclone Harry's waves.

"Thanks to the council's contribution," explains Teulada's deputy mayor, Gian Luca Urru, "we can implement this project with disposal at authorized centers. And free up a valuable stretch of our coast."

Alberto Chessa, president of the Spirito Santo cooperative that manages the complex, is also pleased: "The removal of the vessels is excellent news: it restores decorum to a wonderful area, which for too long has been tarnished by the presence of those wrecks."

The removal, explains Fabiana Puddu, the person in charge of the procedure, will be completed by the end of July, early August at the latest.
